Avery
Street Church
On September 21, 2003, at approximately 6:20
a.m., the Department responded to the Avery Street Church to a
reported structure fire. On arrival companies found the
back half of the building fully
involved. The fire had already vented through the roof.
Engine 6 and Engine 2 were the first engines to arrive on
scene. Engine 6 laid a supply line from a hydrant on the north side of
the building and Engine 2 laid a supply line to the south
side. Attack lines were placed in operation ahead of the fire
next to the sanctuary on both sides of the building. Crews
successfully drove the fire back into the already involved part of
the building and saved the sanctuary. Vernon's Tower assisted
in the fire attack Mutual Aid crews from Vernon, Ellington,
Manchester and Wilson also assisted in the operation.
