FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –
The South Windsor Fire Department is proud to share the good news that Deputy Chief DEBRA BURCH recently graduated from the National Fire Academy’s – EXECUTIVE FIRE OFFICER program. This is the NFA’s flagship program of higher education.Misc20210519DebBurchExecFireOfficer

The graduation was held virtually last week in the Chief’s office and her certificate will be re-presented with Town Officials at an up-coming event.

Deputy Chief Burch is the first South Windsor Fire Officer to achieve such an accomplishment. The Department is extremely proud of her educational passion and success.
Deputy Chief Burch started her public safety career path as an EMT in 1992, continued to improve herself as an EMT-I and then Paramedic working in New Milford Ambulance, Danbury Ambulance, and Norwalk Hospital. She added the fire service in 2000 with the Northville FD of New Milford and then in 2002 hired by Manchester Fire-Rescue-EMS as a Firefighter/Paramedic and currently serving as a career Fire Lieutenant -(IAFF L-1579).

Additionally, she became a member of the South Windsor Fire Department in 2011, served as Company Officers; a Lieutenant (Engine 2/Tower 1) and a Captain (Station 3) and currently as a Deputy Chief overseeing EMS and as the Health and Safety Officer – operationally serving as a respected Duty Officer / Incident Commander.
In her ‘spare’ time she works part-time as a Fire Instructor at the CT Fire Academy and as a Paramedic with East Windsor Ambulance.
Obtaining the Executive Fire Officer certificate is part of Debra’s passion for higher education as she participated and graduated from the National Fire Academy’s charter class of “Managing Officer Program” and holds two (2) Bachelor Degrees (EMS 2002 / Public Safety Admin. 2009) and a Master Degree in Public Safety Administration (2013).
Congratulations Deputy Chief Burch!!!
