The South Windsor Rescue Weekend has come to an end. For members of the public that were unaware, the South Windsor Fire Department hosted a multi-course, rescue-discipline-based training event in town this weekend. The three courses were:
- Principles of Lifting and Stabilization and Extrication (hosted in the large field next to Company 3 along Sullivan Avenue) with Connecticut Custom Fire Training LLC.
- Machinery Rescue (hosted behind Company 3) with Take The Door Training
- Rope Rescue (hosted at Company 1 and Veterans Memorial Park) with Corvus Professional
Each course was two days, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There was also a night lecture on Saturday presented by Firefighter Dan Rinaldi from Providence FD, RI regarding a serious mayday situation he was involved in.
If you follow along with our Facebook posts, you’ll know the South Windsor Fire Department’s Rescue Squad (and department as a whole) goes through some rigorous training on a monthly (and even weekly) basis. This weekend was a great opportunity for SWFD members to expand their knowledge while working with other like-minded individuals outside our department.
We want to thank Jay’s Landscaping, Environmental Services, Inc., Axle and Spindle Towing, and South Windsor Parks & Recreation for their generous donation of equipment, props, services, and time, as well as all our other sponsors of the event. Furthermore we want to thank the Town of South Windsor for allowing us to use the town-owned property located adjacent to the firehouse. The field provided the perfect space for event parking as well as ample room for the setup of all the extrication scenarios.
All attendees received some excellent training throughout both days, and made it through some thoroughly challenging evolutions. The SECOND annual South Windsor Rescue Weekend is already in the works - we’ll see you next year!
