4/11/19 - Mutual Aid Structure Fire:
This evening at approximately 6:15 PM, Broad Brook Fire Department requested two engines from the SWFD to assist with a report of a house fire, just over the town line on Barber Hill Road. Response time was quick, but even before the first BBFD engine arrived on scene, the fire was fully involved.

SWFD Engine 6, Engine 3, and Tower 1 responded to assist the BBFD, with additional mutual aid from Warehouse Point Fire Department, The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT), Somers Fire Department, Town of Vernon Fire Department, and Enfield Fire Department.

SWFD members were on scene for approximately four hours, and other units will remain on scene later into the night.

Occupants of the home made it out safely prior to the fire’s extension because of working smoke detectors, and no injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by both the Town and State Fire Marshal’s office. Any questions regarding cause and origin can be directed to them.
