Fire in Commerical Dryer on 11/8/2022

*Commercial Dryer Fire and MVA with Extrication*
Tuesday, November 8, 2022
Shortly after 11:00 AM, the dispatch center at the South Windsor Police Department received notification of a fire alarm activation as well as a report of a fire inside a commercial dryer in the laundry room at the Cambria Suites Hotel behind Evergreen Walk. FM1 (the South Windsor Fire Marshal) was nearby, and was first on scene. He reported smoke showing from an open door in the rear of the building.

Employees on scene attempted to extinguish a large quantity of linens on fire inside the dryer with the use of three fire extinguishers, but were unsuccessful and evacuated the building. The South Windsor Duty Officer, Engines 3, 4, and 6, Rescue 5, Car 11 and Manchester Fire Rescue EMS Truck 2 responded to the fire. Engine 6 and Engine 3 arrived on scene at the same time, stretched a hoseline inside the building, and knocked down the fire. There was a heavy smoke condition in the laundry room as well as a moderate smoke condition on all four floors of the hotel. Engine 3 assisted Engine 6 with fire attack while Rescue 5 and Engine 4 performed searches of the building. Truck 2 arrived and assisted with ventilation.

There was no extension of fire outside of the dryer area and there were no injuries. The South Windsor Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.

Broad Brook Fire Department, The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT), and Manchester Fire Department 8th District provided station coverage during the fire. Shortly after 12:00 PM, while South Windsor units were still operating at the hotel, a motor vehicle accident with reported entrapment at the intersection of Buckland Road and Deming Street was dispatched to all three station coverage units. Apparatus at Cambria Suites were in the process of picking up, and Rescue 5 and Engine 4 were released and assigned to the extrication.
Rescue 5, Engine 4, and the mutual aid units arrived to the scene and extricated one patient from the passenger seat, who was transported to the hospital with injuries. An infant in the vehicle was also evaluated. The South Windsor Police Department is investigating the accident.
